        You will work within Florida's beautiful capital city, Tallahassee, FL. Tallahassee is a city of continued growth and economic development, and home to the campuses of Florida State University (FSU), the Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU), and Tallahassee Community College (TCC).

        What Will My Role Be?

        If selected for this role, you will be a Senior Drainage Engineer. The position is vital to the values, mission, and vision of our organization. In this role, you will report directly to the State Drainage Engineer, performing enterprise-wide support of hydrology and hydraulics related activities. The Drainage Section, of the Roadway Design Office, leads the statewide practice with an exciting diversity of focus areas, including development of policy and guidance; provide training and project support, and maintain industry-leading expertise in all areas of hydrology and hydraulics. The ideal candidate is a great communicator who possesses transportation drainage experience, can work well alongside and influence stakeholders; and a passion for involvement in emerging industry issues, as we strive to create a best-in-class H&H program.

        Your contribution in this role will be to:

        • Maintain the FDOT Drainage Manual and Drainage Design Guidelines.
        • Identify, track, and suggest changes in design criteria or guidelines based on emerging issues (e.g. resilience, 2D hydraulic modeling, hydroplaning).
        • Develop training and manage the Hydrology and Hydraulics training portfolio.
        • Participate in research projects and translate the findings into practical design criteria and guidance.
        • Support drainage design transition from 2D to 3D plans development.
        • Provide technical assistance to Central Office staff, the District Offices and Consultants related to policy, rules, criteria, manuals, guidelines, and standards.

          POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Revise, maintain and respond to inquiries on the Drainage Manual, Drainage Design Guide, drainage related Standard Plans and Specifications. Coordinate these documents with other design manuals to ensure consistency and compliance with the policy and procedures managed by other Sections. This requires attendance at the statewide District Drainage Engineer's meetings and working with the District Offices and their Consultants to address drainage issues and concerns.

          Assist with drainage engineering studies involving data acquisition and analysis. Apply thorough engineering judgement in identifying relevant findings and conclusions that lead to recommendations in updating drainage design methodology and/or policy from these studies.

          Serve as a technical advisor to Central Office staff, the District Offices and Consultants related to drainage policy rules, criteria manuals, guidelines and standards.

          Assist with developing and delivering training courses in drainage design procedures intended for the District Offices and their Consultants.

          Assist in identifying research needs to improve statewide drainage policy and procedures in support of the Department's Work Program.

          Participates in Quality Assurance Reviews (QARs) for Drainage policy and procedures.

          KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of hydraulic engineering. Knowledge of the function and interaction amongst Florida Department of Transportation design documents, standards, specifications and construction plans, which inlcude, but are not limited to the Drainage Manual, Drainage Design Guide and the Florida Design Manual (FDM). Knowledge and ability to assist in delivering technical training. Ability to analyze, interpret, and implement hydraulic studies. Ability to plan, coordinate, and complete technical assignments. Ability to analyze and solve problems relating to various drainage applications. Ability to effectively communicate hydraulic information, both verbally and in written form to various customers. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to oversee, review, and manage progress on hydraulic studies and projects. Ability to assist groups of engineers in completing complex technical assignments and resolution of problems.

          REQUIRED LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: Professional Engineer Licensure in the State of Florida, pursuant to Chapter 471, Florida Statutes.

          MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Florida Statute 471 and one year of post-registration experience.
