Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a responsible nursing position in the Jefferson County Health Department (CHD) that provides a variety of community health nursing services.This position supports clinical nursing coverage. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Clinic Activity: Responsible for the CHD clinics including General Clinic, Obstetric (OB) Clinic, Family Planning Clinic, Immunizations, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted disease (STD) services, Walk-In and Triage, as well as programmatic activities ensuring that each program meets all state requirements. Assures standardization of medical record documentation and efficient clinic practices through ongoing QA activities. Renders skilled nursing assessment to uncover health problems through observation, interviews and record analysis. Administers preventive immunizations and treatments under medical direction, following written protocols and procedures of the CHD. Assists Physician and/or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with examinations and treatments. Obtains laboratory specimens and performs diagnostic tests following written guidelines and procedures. Serves as back up for tuberculosis (TB) nurse.Maintains electronic health records via the Health Management System (HMS) with proper documentation by recording all services and interactions with patients.

Immunization Program/ FLBCCP/ OB Program: Lead contact for the Immunization Program, responsible for vaccine program, vaccine inventory and other reports, vaccine accountability and the monthly ordering of vaccines. Serves as the contact nurse with the Bureau of Immunizations and the County Health Department. Serves as Lead contact nurse for County Health Department Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (FLBCCP), responsible for follow up and completion of FLBCCP paperwork per protocol. Serves as the lead contact nurse for the OB program, responsible for monitoring labs, monitors documentation, provides care to OB patients per protocol and provider orders, provides follow-up for high-risk OB patients. Ensures that necessary staff are trained properly in each.

Family Planning: Lead family planning nurse, monitors and documents patients abnormal pap smears providing referrals per provider orders, following up with patient per guidelines. Responsible for gathering data, monitoring and submitting Sterilization Report Quarterly per guidelines. Ensures that all family planning patient demographic and service data are accurately documented in HMS.

School Health: Serves as primary backup to School Health Registered Nurse. Ensuring that all school health clinics are operating in compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Pharmacy: Performs monthly reconciliations of the pharmacy inventory.

Triage: Provides assistance with patient referrals through other agencies and clinics, assists provider with patient follow-up as indicated ensuring complete and accurate documentation on all patients. Answers and Triages incoming phone calls promptly redirecting calls as needed.Scans patient records into the HMS electronic health record system as needed.

Other: Attends workshops, meetings, seminars and in services for professional growth and development. Maintains continuation credits and re-licensure. Maintains leave and attendance records via People First, Employee Activities Record via the Health Management System and submits to appropriate supervisor in a timely manner. Performs other related duties as assigned. Participates in Quality Improvement Activities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of software to enhance the productivity of the CHD Programs
  • Actively looks for ways to help people/clients
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services including quality service standards, alternative delivery systems and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques
  • Listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate
  • Identifying the nature of problems
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat diseases. This includes symptoms, treatment options, and preventive health-care measures





    Qualifications:

    • Registered Professional Nurse FLORIDA STATUTE REFERENCE: FS 464, FAC 210.822 OR 8.27
    • Maintains current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification
    • Florida Drivers License
    • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Emergency duties may also include in-state and/or out-of-state deployment.
    • This position requires travel. Vehicle not provided by the State.
    • The incumbent in this position is responsible for the integrity and security of data sets under his or her control to include protected health information
