Our Organization and Mission:

The State Attorney for the Second Judicial Circuit is a constitutionally mandated Florida elected position charged with being the chief prosecuting officer of all criminal trials in the circuit. The second judicial circuit includes the counties of Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, Liberty, Franklin and Wakulla. The State Attorney, with his appointed Assistants and other staff, appear in the courts to represent the interests of justice and the people. The mission statement of our agency is "To serve the community through reducing crime and helping to mitigate the catastrophic impact that crime has on victims and offenders, their families, and society as a whole. This includes proactively addressing the causes of criminal behavior, working to achieve justice after a crime has been committed, and using creative strategies to lower recidivism". The Work You Will Do:

The Leon County office is seeking to hire a Legal Assistant. An employee in this position is responsible for performing a variety of administrative duties in assisting our Assistant State Attorneys with case preparation. Main duties include preparing legal documents, updating the case management system, coordinating meetings, depositions, and court appearances, and assisting victims and witnesses.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

An employee in this position is responsible for performing a variety of complex and confidential administrative duties in assisting an Assistant State Attorney with case preparation. Duties involve the performance of administrative and clerical tasks related to criminal court proceedings; setting up and maintaining the attorneys' calendars; screening calls and mail; scanning; providing information to the general public; data input; and preparing appropriate legal documents and correspondence.

* Prepares Legal Documents. * Coordinate meetings, depositions and or court appearances including space, time, place and notify all participants. * Assists victims and witnesses, as needed. * Maintain calendars. * Arrange travel itinerary and hotel accommodations and reimbursement forms. * Receive, scan and distribute incoming mail. * Assist in the processing and maintenance of all electronic and media including e-filings and evidence and media. * Update case management system and assist with data collection and reports. * Generate subpoenas and update case management system from returns. * Establish and maintain effective communication with attorneys, court personnel, victims, witnesses, law enforcement personnel, and other parties relevant to assigned cases in both verbal and written form. * Notarize documents as needed. * Perform any and all duties as required.

* Dependable and routine in-office attendance during regularly scheduled business hours. * Ability to focus and pay attention to detail. * Ability to read and comprehend. * Effective and efficient communication skills and ability to interact professionally with other employees, members of the public and stakeholders. * Perform quality work within deadlines. * Ability to operate a computer and other office machinery. * Ability to follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures. * Work effectively as a team contributor as well as independently.

Minimum Qualifications:

* A high school diploma or equivalency.
