Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for professional nursing in the Emergency Room on this shift, implement nursing standards, policies and procedures, receive and assess residents' condition; notify physician on duty after making nursing diagnosis, start IVs and administer IV medication, administer blood transfusions, inserts NG and Levine tubes, Assess and provide intensive or emergency nursing care through crisis intervention techniques and/or medication as prescribed. In charge of controlled drugs. Assist physician in emergency procedures, such as, but not limited to, suturing applying splints, removing foreign bodies and fractures. Participates and assist in x-ray, laboratory or other diagnostic examinations, such as EKGs. Arrange transfers from Emergency Room to Medical/Surgical ward, transfers back to residential units and other facilities. Responsible for filling out required forms and computer input.

Provides necessary liaison for hospital and unit in referring residents, staff and others to other facilities for follow-up treatment. Provides advice to licensed nurses and others regarding resident care within the entire hospital.

Responsible for employees' health care for this shift to include, administer flu vaccines and skin tests, provides HAA testing and HIV counseling and documents same, record employees' injuries and carry out procedures as directed for Workman's Compensation; infection control issues, counsels employees regarding their health and responsible for computer input.

Is familiar with and provides nursing leadership and skills for "Code Blue" emergencies, responsible for noting supplies needed and out of date drugs to insure adequate needs are available at all times. Has input in budget for assigned areas. Attends unit meetings and required committee meetings. Attends workshops and in-service training programs.

Responsible for monitoring assigned areas in providing a hygienic, safe and therapeutic environment for residents, staff & visitors. Gives & receives reports & counts controlled drugs between shifts. Relieves other nurse supervisors when required or relieves inpatient nurses when required.

Performs related duties as required.

Participates in disaster and fire drills.

  • Ability to analyze complex reports and determine the service utilization habits of clients and to evaluate the appropriateness of that utilization.

  • Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite):
  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210.8.27 and three years of professional nursing experience, including one year of professional experience in a specialty field as determined by the employing agency.
  • Other job-related requirements for this position:
  • The applicant selected to fill this position shall be required to submit to a pre-employment medical examination. This position requires lifting, pulling and squatting. Duties of this position require the incumbent to be knowledgeable of and utilize the principles of Total Quality Management. The incumbent must be certified in CPR and be able to perform the procedure proficiently.
  • Working hours: (A) Daily from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (B) Total hours in workweek 40 (C) Explain any variation in work (split shift, rotation, etc.)
