Job Description:
The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency operates five
integrated and interdependent statutory programs that share a

Disability Adjudication Services (DAS) makes Social Security
disability determinations under an agreement with the Social
Security Administration. Provides professional disability
adjudication for Social Security Administration disability
applicants. Independently makes eligibility determinations on all
types of disability claims involving all categories of
disabilities; and performs other duties as required. The main DAS
office is in Stone Mountain with branch offices located in Athens,
Dalton, Thomasville and Savannah.
The position filled through this announcement will be a member of
the Claims Processing team and will be based in Thomasville.
P ri n c i p al D ut ies & R es p o n s i b i l it ie s : Under
broad supervision, conducts hearings to decide or recommend
decisions on claims or appeals concerning government programs or
other government-related matters and prepares decisions. The
position is a leadership position and is expected to serve as a
lead worker in the unit assisting the unit supervisor with
mentoring staff.
Specifically, works independently performing one or more of the
following responsibilities to assist in the processing of Social
Security (Title II) or Supplemental Security Income (Title XVI)
disability benefits cases.
Develops and adjudicates all types of cases including complex,
problematic, and sensitive case types, including: SDW, QDD,
Compassionate Allowance, ODAR Informal Remands, and Shepherd cases,
EXRs, Aged Alien, Prehearings, Court Cases, Pre-Released, SSA
mandated reviews and aged cases.
Generally, performs complex research and analysis of regulations
and policies governing SSDI/SSI disability determinations.
Confers with individuals or organizations involved in cases to
obtain relevant information.
Makes decisions regarding SSDI/SSI disability claims.
Determines validity of SSDI/SSI disability claims according to
current laws, administrative and judicial precedents, and available
evidence.
Prepares written opinions and decisions.
Explains the rights of appeal to the involved parties.
Serves as a job expert or liaison in assigned areas.
Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Serves as a Unit Trainer for the Adjudication Basic Training
class
Mi n im um Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or
university AND Three years of professional experience in
interpreting and applying laws regarding program eligibility OR Two
years of experience required at the lower level Adjudicator 2
(LEP011) or position equivalent.
P re f er r e d Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting
the minimum qualifications and successful competencies, possess one
or more of the items below.
Two (2) years of experience processing Pre-Hearings, Adult and
Disabled Child CDRs, and Age 18 Redeterminations within the last 3
years.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role
routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, fax
machines and scanners.
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting.
This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve
managing a high volume workload and demands a high level of
accuracy while working with deadlines. Regular attendance is an
important part of being successful in this position. Reasonable
